For years our church has supported Proem, an outstanding ministry in Poland. I have visited their ministry a couple of times and have great respect for its leadership. Proem Ministries is one of the most effective and credible evangelical works in Europe and, for decades, has proven trustworthy.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has resulted in thousands of refugees fleeing Ukraine, primarily mothers and children whose husbands have stayed behind to fight in the war. Proem is using the tragedy as an opportunity to serve and witness for Jesus Christ.Proem has a large campground, and their ministry has already welcomed scores of desperate refugees with plans to accept more. Therefore, they are mobilizing volunteers and accumulating assets to meet the expanded need.

Maui Dwulat, the Founder and Executive Director of Proem Ministries, reported:

We are preparing the Christian Center in Zakościele in anticipation of welcoming as many refugees as possible. Additionally, we are preparing beds, meals, and needed supplies in order to serve and host as many families as we are physically able to. Several Proem workers who are Ukrainian are attempting to reach and transport them into Poland. Proem is also mobilizing our supply of buses and vans to transport those who manage to reach the border.

While the logistics of coordinating these connections and preparing for the influx of refugees is at times difficult and chaotic, Proem is committed to doing our best to help as many as we can over the next days, weeks, and months.

We will soon receive 100-200 orphans and families from Lviv and Kyiv after Ukrainian authorities authorize their transportation. Many more individuals, families, and groups have reached out to us as they seek refuge. We will assist them in finding apartments, helping with rent, furnishings, and basic household appliances, and will provide necessary funds for them during their first weeks in Poland.

How Can You Help?

The best thing to do now is to pray for the safety of these refugees and wisdom for Proem as we help. Please pray for God’s provision through His global church.

If you want to support the refugees financially, you can donate by clicking here. Under ‘Ministry Designation,’ choose ‘Assist Ukrainian Refugees.’ You can also send funds directly to our U.S. office at Proem Ministries, 11601 Main St. Louisville, KY 40243. Please contact Gina in the U.S. office with questions or for more information at gina.wells@proem.pl or 5o2-254-555o.

With the arrival of so many children and families at our Christian Center, there may be a future need for volunteers to go to Poland and help to structure and lead daily activities for them. We are working diligently to prepare information and coordinate logistics for people who would like to volunteer. Visit our website if you are interested in volunteering: Proem Service Trips.

We will send updates via ‘As It Happens’ videos in the days ahead.

“Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured.” (Hebrews 13:1-3 NRSV)
