Kentucky has an opportunity to take a strong pro-life stand on November 8.  The “Yes for Life” amendment is one simple sentence:

“To protect human life, nothing in this constitution shall be construed to secure or protect a right to abortion or require the funding of abortion.”

Approving this amendment would prohibit judges from arbitrarily determining that the Kentucky Constitution provided a right for a woman to demand an abortion in Kentucky.

Opponents protest it as “out of touch” and howl about all sorts of hypothetical extremes. Yet pro-abortionists are not really concerned about extreme cases. Rather, they want abortion to be permitted up to the day of birth, with no exception. That is extreme. That is evil.

Proverbs 24:11 admonishes us to “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.”  However, it’s not just unborn babies who need to be rescued.  Women under stress also need to be rescued from making wrong, impulsive decisions that would scar them emotionally for life.

I recently received an email from a woman who shared how aborting her child caused a lifetime of emotional distress. Although she asked to remain anonymous, she granted permission to reprint her remarks below:

I have struggled for a long time with wondering if this is something I should share. I believe now, in these critical times of life and death, having the opportunity with the Amendment for LIFE on this November ballot, I must take this chance to share my story.

This goes back several decades. I was a believer. I was raised in a loving Christian home with close Christian friends. We were active in a great Christian Church.  I was deeply in love with my high school sweetheart (also a believer). We planned to be married and have a house full of children. Through high school, we abstained.

We went off to college, and after being there for a couple of weeks, that changed. A couple of weeks later, we realized I was pregnant. He immediately wanted to get married and have our baby. He would have taken good care of us. Both of our families, and our friends, would have been very supportive. None of our needs would have gone unmet.

However, I took matters into my own hands. It was not a hard decision. I did not struggle with what to do. When my baby was 12 weeks old, I had her killed in a very cold, sterile-looking operating room by a well-paid legal abortionist.

For years I would not have admitted the devastating effects of my actions. However, that day, the death that I welcomed into me to murder my child took up residence in me and never left. I have been a ‘dead woman walking.’ That day death took my child physically and painfully, as well as future descendants. That same death has stayed, killed, destroyed & stolen from me through the years. I could go on for a very long time about that, but that is not why I am writing this.

What I needed then was for the law to protect me, our baby, and our family. The law failed us. Killing was legal. There is no possible way in the world that I would have ever, ever considered having an illegal abortion. No way. Ever. I am so thankful that it is illegal for anyone to murder me. I don’t have to wait for a one-at-a-time possible change of heart. Right this second, murdering me is illegal. Am I more valuable than my child? Of course not.  We know that throughout history, other groups of people have been considered less, as well. But as believers, we know that God has created all of us; none of us is less than.

My reason for taking this chance to share part of my story is though the law failed our lives, we now have the opportunity for the law to protect countless lives, the lives of the children, their mothers & families. Will you please consider taking this stand for LIFE in your role as a pastor, beginning now as this vote on Amendment 2 is quickly approaching? It is not a new law or restriction. It simply acknowledges that there is nothing in our KY Constitution that guarantees the right to abortion or to have it paid for by taxpayer dollars.

There is so much misleading information being circulated about the amendment. Don’t we have the responsibility to present the truth? This is not a partisan vote. It is simply a life vs. death decision.

On November 8th, vote “YES” for Amendment 2 and help “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, ‘But we knew nothing about this,’ does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?” (Proverbs 24:11-12).
