Upon leaving dinner with family at a local restaurant a few nights ago, I quickly thought to get a picture of Judy and me to use as a Christmas Day greeting for this blog. Although it was extremely cold, we stopped and posed as our daughter-in-law, Lisa, hurriedly snapped a photo.

Lisa looked at the photo on her phone and did a double-take. “Look at this!” she exclaimed. None of us, including Lisa, had noticed the electrical pole across the street behind us when the picture was taken. Yet there it was in the photo, standing tall and perfectly positioned in the background.

This Christmas, may we be mindful that, as Christians, we live under the cross of Jesus even when we are unaware. Jesus was given to this world for the express purpose of sacrificing His life as a ransom for our sins. That cross is an ever-present reminder: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

Let us give thanks this Christmas Day for God’s faithfulness. For it is because of His everlasting love and the ever-present cross that we are free – free from sin and death and Hell.

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15).

Merry Christmas!

– Bob and Judy
