This morning my grandson Charlie and his wife Faith appeared on stage at the end of the worship service at his family’s church in Port Charlotte, Florida. The New Day Church had prayed for Charlie and agonized with the Russell family through Charlie’s 77-day stay in an ICU in a Nashville hospital. Week-by-week reports from his father Rusty, who is New Day’s pastor, kept the church updated on his precarious condition. The church was super-supportive of our family during the long ordeal. They prayed without ceasing when the reports didn’t look good and were elated with later reports of Charlie’s dramatic recovery.
Rusty reported that when family members visited Charlie in the ICU, they often played Charlie’s favorite worship songs from the playlist on his phone. Even though he was sedated, the family was hopeful those inspirational praise songs would inspire Charlie to trust God and give it his all to keep on living. One of the songs, Million Little Miracles, became especially meaningful to the family.
We believe the fact that Charlie walked on stage the day after Christmas and sang a duet with his wife Faith is a marvelous miracle and dramatic answer to prayer. Rusty preached this weekend on persevering under trial from James 1:12. After his sermon, Charlie and Faith sang Million Little Miracles, and the New Day Church rejoiced and gave God thanks. You can watch that special moment starting at 1:11:30 and read a portion of the lyrics from that song below:
All my life, I’ve been carried by grace
Don’t ask me how ’cause I can’t explain
It’s nothing short of a miracle I’m here
I’ve got some blessings that I don’t deserve
I’ve got some scars, but that’s how you learn
It’s nothing short of a miracle I’m here
I think it over, and it doesn’t add up
I know it comes from above
I’ve got miracles on miracles
A million little miracles
Miracles on miracles
Count your miracles
One, two, three, four, I can’t even count ’em all
You held me steady, so I wouldn’t give up
You opened doors that nobody could shut
I hope I never get over what You’ve done
I wanna live with an open heart
I wanna live like I know who You are
I hope I never get over what You’ve done
It’s not coincidence, and it’s not luck
I know it comes from above
I’ve got miracles on miracles
A million little miracles
Miracles on miracles
Count your miracles
One, two, three, four, I can’t even count ’em all
Miracles on miracles
A million little miracles
Miracles on miracles
Count your miracles…

His love endures forever.
